Performing – why should you do it?

When we think of performing, we often imagine bright lights, a big stage and all eyes on us. Understandably, it can all seem a bit daunting at first. However, once you get into the swing of things, performing can soon become a great way of expressing emotions, boosting confidence, meeting new people and giving you a new lease of life!

At danceSing, our members who have very often never performed before, have turned into self-confessed performance lovers who love nothing more than getting on stage to sing and dance with fellow danceSingers!

Performing can be great fun, and it also has numerous physical and mental health benefits…

Performing can improve self-confidence

Many of us can struggle with self-confidence at some point in our life’s, it’s only natural, and performing can be a fantastic way to help gradually improve this. The more we perform in front of an audience, the more comfortable we feel, and feelings of shyness soon fade away. Read what just one of our members had to say about performing with danceSing…

When we’re performing, focusing on new routines and remembering the steps can help to combat feeling self-conscious. And best of all, when you master a performance, it can feel like the best feeling in the world and we are confident you will feel great about yourself!

Performing can improve communication and cooperation

Good communication and cooperation are key ingredients to good performances!

While performing, we communicate with others through body language, facial expressions and physical movements, like the steps that are involved in a routine for example. Regularly performing can help improve the art of nonverbal communication – something that is often more powerful and honest than verbal communication.

Performing can boost mental health

Performing can be a great way to channel energy and emotions in a positive environment, making it an activity that can be part of helping to boost mental health. It’s often the case that people who use performance and creativity as an emotional outlet end up creating something amazing and unique.

Our danceSingers have told us that performing makes them feel less isolated, stressed and anxious. In fact, 82% of our members have noticed a greater feeling of wellbeing!

Performing can enhance the memory

Just like your muscles, your brain needs exercise too. Performing can be a great way to exercise your brain and your memory.

Rehearsing for performances means you are working your memory to remember steps to a dance routine or words to a song, and the more you do this, the cognitive processes and memory functions in your brain can improve.

Performing is great fun

Finally, and most importantly, performing is a tonne of fun for so many reasons!

At danceSing, you can perform with a group of likeminded people in an environment where you can just be yourself.

How often do you really get to sing, dance and let loose? If these activities are something you find great fun in, start performing!
